Thanks for posting this tribute ...Hear, hear, Phil. Thanks for posting this tribute to Fats. i also fell under the spell of his music in the late 1950s and it still resonates with me today. Unlike his contemporaries, he didn't need to be flashy or glamorous or outrageous - his music did the talking. Fats was greatly underestimated in the r&r world and deserved more fame and appreciation. I also had the pleasure of seeing him and his splendid band perform at the Odeon Hammersmith in the late 1970s and again in Vienna in the 1980s. No flashing lights, no rabble-rousing support bands, no silly costumes - just go old-fashioned New Orleans R&B.
